Mildred Jenkins Obituary

Mildred Jenkins, 95, of Poplar Bluff died Monday February 20. 2012, at 9:58 a.m., with family by her bedside, at the Cedargate Nursing Home. Mrs. Jenkins was born Mildred Virginia Fowler on March 10, 1916 in Grandin, Mo. On March 27, 1935 she married Loren McGowen of Naylor, who preceded her in death. On October 11, 1983 she married Floyd Jenkins of Poplar Bluff, who also preceded her in death. Mrs. Jenkins made her home with her niece, Wilma Blackledge Kenser for 11 years in Poplar Bluff, before becoming a resident of Cedargate Nursing Home. Mrs. Jenkins served and loved Jesus Christ and enjoyed playing the piano, accordion and singing in a gospel trio. She was the pianist at many gospel singing conventions around Butler and Ripley Counties. If a church was missing a pianist they could count on Mildred to fill the need. She also worked as a homemaker around Butler County.

Preceding Mildred in death are her parents, James and Sarah Fowler; four brothers, Homer, Hobert, Ben and Charley Fowler and four sisters, Myrtle Fowler Graham, Zephra Fowler Blackledge, Florence Fowler Young and Lorene Fowler Green and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Survivors include a host of nieces and nephews who fondly remember Mildred's warm and playful personality. Although no children of her own, Mildred loved her nieces and nephews and enjoyed sharing in their lives.

Visitation for Mrs. Jenkins will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, February 24, 2012 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, 844 Cedar Street, Poplar Bluff, Mo., followed by the funeral service at 1 p.m. in the chapel, with Martin Kenser officiating. Burial in Memorial Garden Cemetery, Poplar Bluff, Mo. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Off Street Ministries in Poplar Bluff.
