Alma A. Allen moved to Heaven on May 1, 2025. Alma, daughter of Homer and Mary Dunlap of Poplar Bluff, was born on June 16, 1934. She retired from Commerce Bank as the Customer Services Operations Officer after 36 years. She earned a degree from Three Rivers Community College in Banking and Financial Management.
On April 19, 1953, she married Norman Allen, and they were married 64 years. He preceded her in death in 2017.
Alma enjoyed Cardinals Baseball, playing with grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and traveling. She traveled to 38 states including Alaska and Hawaii. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Poplar Bluff and served on various boards and committees.
She is survived by two daughters, Debra Edge of Ozark, MO and Donna Shortz and her husband Chuck of Dunkirk, MD; four grandchildren, Jared Braschler and Jessica, Kyle Braschler and Laura, Arin Shortz, Mark Shortz and Sara, and stepson Jeff Edge and Jacki; six great-grandchildren, Beckett, Finley, Sullivan, Aiden, Nolan, and Maddy.
Alma is survived by three sisters Alta Buffington, Doris Weber and husband Mark, and Janice Estel and husband Dennis, and a brother, Bill Dunlap. She is also survived by brother and sister-in laws, Betty Dunlap, Floyce Dunlap, Lenora Dunlap, Joe Bryant, Vernon and Debbie Allen, Gerry Luechtefeld, Sylvia and Bob Childs, Myra Allen, and Della Allen.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Carol Bryant, and three brothers, Norman, Glenn, and James Dunlap and son-in-law David Edge. Also preceding her in death were brother and sisters-in-law Audrey and Walter Ferguson, Arthur and Claudia Allen, Ray and Margarett Allen, Glen and Lillian Allen, Wilma Allen, John Luechtefeld, Mary Dunlap, Clifford and Wanda Allen, Dale Allen, Marvin Allen, Sharon and Darrell Davidson.
Visitation will be Tuesday, May 6, 11:00am, at First United Methodist Church, 500 North Main St. in Poplar Bluff; Celebration of Life at 1:00pm; and graveside services at Memorial Gardens.
Memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, the March of Dimes, Haven House, and Cancer Society.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Fowler and Sullivan Funeral Home.
