Alva "Alvie" Deaton, 76, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 18, 2014. Born in Fremont, Mo. on April 15, 1938 to Chester and Rosie Deaton, he was a lifelong resident and businessman of Butler County, Mo.
Alvie is survived by his wife of 57 years, Helen "Okie" Deaton and his children, Janet Deaton of Poplar Bluff, Bobby and Michelle Deaton of Poplar Bluff, and Alpha and Susan Taylor of Clifty, Ark.; his grandchildren, Miranda Deaton, Austin Deaton, Brandon Taylor, Chace (and Ashley) Taylor, and one great-grandson, Braxton Taylor; his brother, Melburn (Bernice) Deaton, and two sisters, Lola Dean Hager and Mary Jo (Charlie) Barth.
Alvie was a retired owner/operator of Deaton Automotive. He spent most of his life fixing up cars and raising cattle and hogs. In his retirement he enjoyed reading and working in his woodshop. Okie was the love and center of his life. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. He was a devout Christian and member of the Bluff City Apostolic Worship Center.
Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Bluff City Apostolic Worship Center, 200 South Walnut Street, Poplar Bluff, Mo. Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at the church. Burial will be in Old Oak Hill Community Cemetery.
