Alvin Lee Niswonger

Alvin Lee Niswonger, 91, of Gideon, MO passed away on February 06, 2025, at Gideon Care Center in Gideon, Missouri. Alvin was born on August 2, 1933, to Amos and Margaret (Hon) Niswonger in Egypt, Arkansas. Alvin was an ironworker his whole adult life, after moving to Illinois.  After retiring from the ironworker local in Aurora, Illinois, he moved to Missouri, the state he grew up in.  He was quick to lend a hand to neighbors and friends when needed.  He could often be seen working on his big Caterpillar tractor, welding and fixing whatever equipment needed attention.  He enjoyed working on his heavy equipment, hunting, fishing and tending to his gardens. He enjoyed simple quiet times on his property, just enjoying nature.  He enjoyed long trips across the country and visited most all national parks in the United States. Alvin is survived by children; Margaret Stoner, Helen Owen, Alan Niswonger, brother, Edward Niswonger, sister, Beulah Wallace. He also has 5 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents; Margaret and Amos Niswonger, and older brother; Delmar Niswonger. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 15th, 2025, from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home 701 Vine St. Poplar Bluff. Funeral services will begin in the chapel at 2pm with Dwight Lackey officiating.  Burial will take place at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Fairdealing, MO
