Arthur Hillis

Arthur Thurman Hillis, age 86, of Poplar Bluff, Mo. passed away Saturday, October 20, 2012 at Westwood Hills Healthcare. Mr. Hillis was born August 12, 1926, in Poplar Bluff and was a life time Butler County resident. He retired as a maintenance supervisor for the city of Poplar Bluff street department. He was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, baseball and softball. On February 14, 1948, he was married to Peggy (Kliensorge) Hillis, in Piggot, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on October 1, 2006. Mr. Hillis is survived by one son, Ronald Gene Hillis and wife, Tanya; his son-in-law, Joe L. Ward; and one special niece, Janice Crook, all of Poplar Bluff; one sister, Lola Feverston of Poplar Bluff; and a special brother-in-law, Ralph Mayes of Poplar Bluff; four grandchildren, Daniel Hillis, Malia Cannaday, Joe L. Ward Jr., Michael Ward all of Poplar Bluff; three great-grandchildren, Stephanie Ward of Pittsburg, Pa., Sara Ward of St. Louis, and Michael Ward Jr. of Poplar Bluff, and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents, Walter Charles Hillis and Eva Marie Hillis; two daughters, Sandra Hillis and Martha Suzy Ward; two sisters, Dorothy Mayes and Ethel Welch; six brothers, Ernie Hillis, Verley Hillis, Charles Hillis, Willard Hillis, Cecil Hillis, and Donald Hillis. Visitation for Mr. Hillis will begin at 6 p.m. Monday, October 22, 2012 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff. The funeral services at 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 23, 2012 in the chapel with Rev. Ralph Mayes officiating. Burial in the City Cemetery.
