Basil Boyd Phelps, 59, of Poplar Bluff passed away Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2010 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, 2010, at the Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff, followed by a graveside service at 3:15 p.m. at the City Cemetery with Rev. Raymond Nelson officiating.
Mr. Phelps was born August 21, 1951, in Poplar Bluff and was a lifetime resident of Butler County. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was the owner and operator of Downtown Furniture in Poplar Bluff. His hobbies were deer hunting, being with his grandchildren, he enjoyed all his customers and visiting with everyone who came into the store.
He married Teresa Bilbrey on January 6, 1989 in Poplar Bluff, she survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Charles Phelps and wife, Melissa of Wappapello and Scott Phelps and wife, Lori, of Poplar Bluff; four sisters, Margaret Lefrink, Rita Jolliff and Joan Baysinger, all of Poplar Blufff and Juanita Sells of Fredricktown; two brothers, Coy Phelps and Racil Phelps, both of Poplar Bluff; six grandchildren, Taylor Phelps, Clayton Phelps, Tyler Phelps, Alyson Porter, Charleyse Phelps and Marissa Phelps.
He was preceded in death by his parents Vard Phelps and Lula Cobb Phelps; three brothers, Thomas Phelps, Vard Ray Phelps and Clifton Phelps; and three sisters, Geneva Griffin, Dorothy Stull and Evelyn King.
