Bessie M. Perkins, 87, of Poplar Bluff Mo., died Tuesday June 3, 2014 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
She was born December 24, 1926 at Neelyville, Missouri to the late James Lewis and Lydia Jackson.
Mrs. Perkins was cook in the Neelyville school system. She enjoyed scratch off tickets, cooking, and going to basketball and softball games. Mrs. Perkins was a member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Neelyville and a lifelong Butler county resident.
On Nov. 27, 1961 she married Jacob Perkins Jr. He preceded her in death on June 12, 1983.
Survivors include 6 daughters, Glenda Young of Detroit, Mich., Judy Gabriel of North Carolina, Debra Hardy of Dallas TX., Fern Glover and Faye Lewis of Ypsilanti, Mich., Ola Johnson of Qulin, Mo.; 4 sons Ronald Lewis of Detroit Mich., Harlie Lewis of Belleville, Mich., Duwayne Perkins of Neelyville Mo., and Louis Perkins of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; 23 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband also preceding her in death are her parents, James Lewis and Lydia Jackson; one son Roger Elliot Lewis; 3 sisters, Myrtle, Bertha, and Pearl; and 4 brothers, James, Herman, Rudolph, and Joe.
Visitation will be Sat. from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel with the funeral services beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Ronnie McCain officiating. Burial will be at Neelyville, Cemetery.
