Bill Miller

Billy Dave Miller entered into heaven July 30, 2010 at the age of 78. Visitation Sunday Aug. 1, 2010 after 6 p.m. and funeral service at 11 a.m. Monday Aug. 2, 2010 at the Palace of Praise, 1400 Hershel Bess Blvd, Poplar Bluff, Mo. with Rev. Randy West officiating. Burial in the Johnston Cemetery in Reyno, Ark. Proverbs 18:24 says: A man that has friends must show himself to be friendly. We have been honored to know just such a man. We witnessed the fruit of a life of friendliness when as his days here with us were coming to an end there was a constant stream of people going out to check on Bro. Bill. Many who visited said they left encouraged because of his positive attitude and complete trust in the sovereingnty of God. Billy Dave Miller was born on Feb. 20, 1932, to Cornellies Miller and Maude Sullivan Miller. He was brother to Clemen Miller and Delois Miller, Alwanda Dell, Mavis Kewett, and Bronese Brown. He became husband, companion and best friend to Glenda Tweety on Nov. 6, 1953. He became dad, teacher,hunting and fushing buddy to his pride and joys, Keith, Kevin and Kent. He was father-in-law to Lisa, Angie and Jenny, grandpa Bill to Brian, Theresa, Trent, Christopher, Ashley, Jordan, Kelsey, Benjamin, Jonathan and Samuel and great-gandpa to Lexi, Keri, Bailey, Brittnee, Ashli, Andrew and Audrey. He also became mentor and adopted dad to men who had no dad of their own. He was a friend to more people than we can number. To many, their first memory of attending the Ninth and Cedar Church of God or Palace of Praise is being greeted and hugged by non other than Bro. Bill. One young lady said, "I walked into Ninth and Cedar nervous and scared. Bro. Bill smiled and hugged me and I felt safe." Another said, " Sixteen years about, I walked into Ninth and Cedar Church of God for the first time. I had my son in my arms. Bill Miller greeted me and hugged me like he had known me for years. He took my son and carried him all over the church. Sixteen years later, my son is to big to carry but, Bill Miller was still hugging me." Bill Miller somehow knew instinctively what doctors and scientists have spent may hours and a lot of money to discover- there are healing powers in a hug. We will miss seeing him stand on the porch of the Palace, smiling and waving everyone in. We can carry on his legacy by making sure everyone who comes here feels welcome. We can honor this great man by passing on the priceless gift he gave to everyone of us- healing in a hug. When he made his entrance into Heaven on July 30, 2010, I'm sure one of the first things he did was to reunite with his son, Robert Neil"Bobby"; his parents, Cornellies and Maude Miller; his brother, Clemen and Delois Miller and his sister Bronese Brown. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to the Palace of Praise, 1400 Hershel Bess Blvd. Poplar Bluff, Mo. Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, 844 Cedar, Poplar Bluff , Mo. is in charge of arrangements.
