Captain L.B. Powell

Captain L.B. Powell, 95, departed this life March 3, 2011. Visitation will begin at 6PM Friday, March 4, 2011 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home 844 Cedar St. Poplar Bluff. Funeral will be at 11AM Saturday March 5, 2011 at the funeral home chapel. Donnie Fowler officiating and burial will be at Memorial Gardens. On July 15, 1938 Captain Powell was married to Marie Brooks, who preceded him in death on Oct. 25, 2005. They were in love at first sight and married a few months later. They were married for more than 67 years. They had four children. Two daughters Evelyn Marie Powell Moore and Mary Jane Powell Ezell; two sons, Captain Riley L.B. Powell and Captain Van Lee Powell, all surviving. Also surviving are six grandchildren; Tina Slinker Nevels, Gary Slinker, Sherry Ezell Abbott, Christy Ezell Vaughn, Woody Powerll and Jeffrey Powell in addition to two step-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, Priscilla and Matt Warren. L.B. is survived by one brother, Captain Robert Earl Powell and family of Poplar Bluff. two sisters; Ruth Powell Rice and Rose Anna Nicks of Texas. several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Ira Byrd Powell and Lena Rivers Rice Powell; four brothers, Roy Byrd Powell, Howard Lee Powell, Captain Van Harvey Powell and Albert Colice Powell; two sisters Mary Blanch Powell and Kathryn Stephens Powell Hills. L.B. was a good family man, a good neighbor and was well liked an very well respected. He will be greatly missed.
