Charles Edward Anderson was born on September 12th, 1940, in Morocco, Missouri. He was one of fourteen children born to the late Phillip James and Sallie May (Lewis) Anderson. He grew up in Morocco and attended school there, as well as Wheatley and Poplar Bluff High School.
Charles worked at the Daily American Republic newspaper and for the railroad. He later retired from the Poplar Bluff School System, where he faithfully served as a bus driver for over 21 years.
On September 25, 1993, he married Ruther (Hollis) Anderson, who preceded him in death. They shared 32 years of marriage. Together, they enjoyed traveling to Texas to visit her son, (who also preceded Charles in death), they also enjoyed trips to Atlanta and Indianapolis.
Charles' favorite color was blue, he enjoyed watching old westerns and action movies, often watching them over and over again. Charles was a skilled handyman and even assisted in the Sears lawn mower department, solving many problems that others could not.
Charles was a devoted member of Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for many years, he was also a soloist there. Charles began his spiritual journey at Morning Star Baptist Church in Broseley, Missouri. If anyone asked how he was, his favorite response was, " fine, fine, fine."
Charles Anderson entered into rest on March 16, 2026 at the age of 85 years.
Charles is survived by his children, Barbara Lewis, Charlene Moss (Derrick), Allan Anderson (Niecy), Sarah Booker (Tarryl Sr.), Penny Sanders (Isaac), and Katina Jones (Anthony). Charles is also survived by a host of grandchildren and great- grandchildren, with 4 brothers, William James Anderson (Elizabeth), Sylvester Anderson, Donnell Anderson (Willene), and Michael Anderson (Cubie). 3 sisters, Joyce Rose, Vermal Blackman, and Peggy Carter, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, friends, and his dear friend, Mr. Rex Rattler.
The Memorial service will be on May 10th 2026, the time will be 1:00pm.
The service will be at Fowler Sullivan Funeral Home 701 Vine ST. Poplar Bluff MO. 63901.
