Chocolate Ann (Harris) Johnson was born May 24,1956 in the small community of Hushpuckena, Mississippi, to the late Lawson Harris and Ruby Harris Jackson. She was raised in the communities of Winstonville and Mound Bayou, Mississippi, where the foundation of her life’s journey began. On October 12, 2026, Chocolate peacefully transitioned from this earthly life at Mercy Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, leaving behind a lifetime of memories and a legacy of love that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. Life’s journey carried Chocolate from the familiar roads of Mississippi to the bustling city of Dallas, Texas, where she married Johnny B. Johnson Sr. Together, they built a family that would become one of her greatest joys and most treasured blessings. Chocolate was the proud and devoted mother of four beautiful children: Johnny B. Johnson Jr. (Amanda) of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; Chocoletta Simpson (Charlando) of Stevens Point, Wisconsin; Lillie Morris (Kendall) of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; and Ruthie Johnson of Missouri. To know Chocolate was to know a woman of strength, determination, and resilience. Life did not always hand her an easy road, but through every obstacle, every disappointment, and every difficult season, she continued to press forward. Her journey was not without challenges, yet her story remained one of perseverance, courage, and an enduring love for her family. Chocolate found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved doing hair, keeping a clean and welcoming home, cooking delicious meals, shopping, and spending quality time with those she loved. She also enjoyed reading her Bible, finding moments of peace and reflection in God’s Word. Above all, Chocolate treasured her family. Her children held a special place in her heart, but becoming a grandmother brought another beautiful dimension of love into her life. Her grandchildren were among her greatest joys, and she delighted in loving on them, spending time with them, and creating memories they will carry for a lifetime. Her love was not always expressed through grand gestures, but often through the everyday things that made her who she was. Whether preparing a meal, sharing a conversation, offering advice, or simply being present, Chocolate had her own special way of showing those around her that they mattered. Her life was a testimony that strength is not measured by the absence of struggles, but by the courage to keep going in spite of them. Chocolate was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Ruby Harris Jackson; her father, Andrew Jackson; and father Lawson Harris Sr; her twin sister, Lilly Harris; sisters Lillie Brown, Joann Mitchell,Jessie Mae Mack, Mary Ann Stubbs, Ethel Lee, Jesse Mae Mack; brothers Lawson Perry Harris and George Harris, and her cherished nieces and nephews, Ronnie Webb Jr., Crystal Webb, Jessie “Little James” Bell, Bianca Drummond, and Dimiterus Bell. She leaves to cherish her precious memory her husband, Johnny B. Johnson Sr.; her four loving children and their spouses; and her ten beloved grandchildren: Jade Johnson, Audrina Hickey-Johnson, Lana Simpson, Josiah Johnson, Jayla Johnson, Rylee Johnson, Lillianna Morris, Jeremiah Johnson, Landin Simpson, and Kyndall Morris. She also leaves behind her loving siblings: Pearlie (James) Bell, Shirley Jackson, Lee Andrew (Glenda) Jackson, Georgia Mae Lambert, Juanita Mathews, Leona (Keith) Borders, Georgia (Bishop Ronnie) Webb, and James Harris; along with 42 great-nieces and great-nephews, seven great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, and a host of extended family members, dear friends, and loved ones whose lives were touched by her presence. Although her earthly journey has come to an end, the love Chocolate gave will never fade. It will live on in the hearts of her children, in the laughter of her grandchildren, in the memories shared around family tables, and in the stories that will be told for generations to come. Her family was the center of her world, and she loved them with a love that was steady, fierce, and unconditional. While her absence leaves a space that no one else can fill, her family finds comfort in knowing that love does not end when a life ends. It simply becomes a legacy. Chocolate’s story was uniquely her own. It was a story of love, lessons, laughter, trials, triumphs, and the strength to continue moving forward. Today, we do not simply remember the day she departed; we honor every day she lived, every sacrifice she made, every burden she carried, and every life she touched. Rest peacefully, Chocolate Ann Johnson. Your work on this side is complete. Your love remains, your memories are treasured, and your legacy will live on through the generations that follow. Forever loved. Forever remembered. Forever a part of us.
