Delavina Ferren

Delavina Ferren, 92, passed away peacefully to glory on July 22, 2014. She was born June 19, 1922 to John and Elizabeth Sappington at Floyd, Arkansas. She married Sam Ferren on February 2, 1945. He preceded her in death June 20, 1956. Delavina was a member of Greater Vision Worship Center in Puxico, MO. She was also an Apostolic Pentecostal minister for many years and ministered to both the blind and the sighted. Delavina became totally blind at age 12. She attended the school for the blind in Little Rock, Arkansas from 1935-1941 where she learned to read and write Braille fluently. She has held many offices in the Southeast MO united blind club and traveled extensively to attend Missouri Council of the Blind and American Council of the Blind conventions and activities. Delavina enjoyed traveling, attending church, reading Braille stories to school children and spending time with her family. She is survived by 2 daughters Doris Carpenter and husband Leroy and Beulah Ziegler. 1 step-daughter Lorene Spain. 4 grandchildren David Carpenter and wife Jill, Frank Day and wife Rebecca, Cindy Johnson and Jamie Bryant and husband Marty; sister-in-law Judy Johnson, son-in-law Bill Day, 8 great-grandchildren, Whitley and Tanner Carpenter, Amber and Reagan Bryant, Will Johnson, Emily, Stephanie and Alex Day. A homemaker who had cared for her 25 years, Donna Gordon, and many other relatives and friends. Delavina was preceded in death by 5 brothers; John, Forest, James, Grady and Carl Sappington, a son-in-law Thomas Ziegler, a granddaughter Melissa Day and great granddaughter Cynthia Day. Delavina was greatly loved and will be missed by many. Visitation will begin at 4-7 Sunday July 27 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff and service will be 10am Monday July 28 with Pastor Marty Bryant officiating. Burial will be at Grandin Cemetery in Grandin, MO
