Reverend Ernest Winters, 98, of Broseley, MO passed away on February 03, 2025, at John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Ernest was born on April 1, 1926, to George and Helen Winters in Widener, Arkansas. In 1952 Ernest Winters enlisted in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was stationed in Fort Sheridan, Illinois and later deployed to France. He was honorably discharged in 1954. In 1958 he founded Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Robbins, Illinois. In 1992 he became a Pastor at New Salem Missionary Baptist Church, in Portageville, Missouri for 14 years. Ernest retired from Wyman & Gordon, in Harvey, Illinois and moved to Poplar Bluff, Missouri and later to Broseley, Missouri. After his retirement he continued to work as a janitor at Three Rivers College. Ernest is survived by his four children, Mark Winters, of Indiana, Debra Dilworth of Jefferson City, Missouri, J.R. Woods of Chicago, Illinois and Laurie Cooper of Dallas, Texas, Special grandson Kayode "Jay" Winters, who he helped raise, Special niece Linda Deaner, special friend Alice Bashley and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Ernest was preceded in death by his parents and all his siblings, George Winters, Connie Winters, Mack Winters, Robert Winters, Leroy Watson, Alice West, Minnie McDonald, Zettie Mae Porter, Adean Marzette, Mary Neylon, and Curly Nance. Visitation will be held on Thursday the 13th of February from 11:00am to 12:00pm at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff, MO. Funeral services will be at 12:00pm. to 1:00pm Burial will take place at 2:00pm at Bloomfield Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield Missouri.
