Everett Hornbeck

Everett Roy Hornbeck, age 90, of Cabot, Arkansas, passed away Monday, March 18, 2013, at the Eugene Towbin Veterans Hospital in North Little Rock, Arkansas. Mr. Hornbeck joined the Army in 1940, became a paratrooper, and jumped into Sicily several hours before the invasion to lay ground work. He was taken prisoner on July 12, 1943 and was liberated on April 12, 1945. After leaving the Army, he was a successful general contractor in St. Louis, Missouri for many years. He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America for over 60 years. Upon retirement, he moved back to Poplar Bluff, Missouri and later to Cabot, Arkansas. He loved his family and his church. He was an avid golfer and gardener. He will be missed by all who knew him. Mr. Hornbeck was born February 14, 1923, to the late Ransom and Myrtle Hornbeck. On July 11, 1945, he married Lea (Pete) Hays in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. She survives. Other survivors include his son, Denny Hornbeck and wife, Nancy of Defiance, Missouri, and a daughter, Kolynn Ezell and husband, Wayne (Stormy) of Cabot, Arkansas; 5 grandchildren, Melanie Shipley and husband, Mike, Michele Dunn and husband Tony, Michael Hornbeck and wife, Jamie, all of St. Louis, Missouri, Lt. Cmdr. Thomas Gill and wife Rose of Dunedin, Florida, and Nicholas Frost and wife Megan of Austin, Arkansas; 7 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donny Hornbeck and wife, Betty of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and Ralph Hornbeck of St. Louis, Missouri. He is preceded in death by ten siblings. Visitation will be held on Thursday March 21, 2013 at 12 (noon), at the Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, 844 Cedar St. Poplar Bluff, Mo. , followed by funeral services at 1 p.m. in the chapel, with Ron Fowler officiating. Burial with military honors in the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.
