Gary Lynn Whitmer Sr.

Gary Lynn Whitmer Sr. 76, of Poplar Bluff met his heavenly father and other family members today just after midnight at Memorial Hospital in Bellville, IL  He had been in hospitals and nursing homes since December.

Gary was born January 21, 1945 to the late Charles and Agnes (Sullivan) Whitmer.

Gary was retired from the job he loved at McDonald's south in Poplar Bluff.   He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church and was a deacon at Stringtown Baptist Church.

October 26, 1963 he married Rose Ragsdale.  They enjoyed 57 years of marriage.

Gary is survived by his wife Rose, children; Gary L. Whitmer Jr, Ellen Wirtz (Matthew), Summer L. Whitmer, John Bruning, 5 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson, brothers; Stanley and Terry Whitmer, sister; Pat Walker.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be 12-1PM Friday April 30, 2021 at Fowler Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff.  There will then be a procession to Woodlawn Cemetery for a 1:30 PM Graveside service with Charles Kelly Jr. officiating.
