Helen Maxine Smith, 90, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away April 16, 2014, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Smith was born February 21, 1924, in Hunter, Missouri, to the late Carlos and Pearl (Rongey) Jordan.
She was valedictorian of her class at Ellsinore High School, graduating in 1940.
On December 5, 1943, she married James A. "Jim" Smith in Tonopah, Nevada. He survives.
Mrs. Smith was a retired elementary school librarian and a member of First Baptist Church.
Other survivors include her daughter, Carol Smith Cook (Harold) of Madison, Alabama; a brother, Glen Jordan, of Olive Branch, Mississippi; three grandchildren, Shannon Cook Glass (Craig) of Arlington, Texas, Erin Cook Schrage (Steve) of St. Louis, Missouri, and Allison Cook of Huntsville, Alabama; and seven great-grandchildren, Jenna Glass, Andrew Glass, Anna Schrage, Rachel Schrage, Kyra Schrage, Mark Schrage and Daniel Schrage.
She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her son, James Dean "Jay" Smith, and a brother, Ben Jordan.
Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 19, 2014, at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, in Poplar Bluff, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m., with Dr. William Vail officiating.
