Jack H. Whiteside, 94, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., former resident of Piggott, Ark., passed away Saturday, February 11, 2017 at his home. Mr. Whiteside was born on September 7, 1922 in Holcomb, Mo., to the late Thales Oscar Whiteside and Minnie Bell (Barnwell) Whiteside.
Mr. Whiteside was a member of the Highland Drive Church of Christ in Poplar Bluff and served in the United States Army during W.W. II . He retired from Cotton Belt Railroad and enjoyed playing golf.
He was married to Clella (Tompkins) Whiteside on August 6, 1997 in Piggott. She survives.
He is also survived by his step children, Tom Tompkins, Bob Tompkins, Sandra Huggins and Robin Pearson and daughter in-law, Carolyn Whiteside; grandchildren, Quinten (Lucy) and Caleb (Samantha).
He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Lorrell Whiteside and one son, Dr. Jackie Whiteside, as well as two sisters, Alma and Florence and three brothers, Bryon, Basil and Ray Whiteside.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at the Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff, followed by funeral service at 12 p.m. (noon), in the chapel, with Vernon Curry officiating. Mr. Whiteside will be laid to rest in the Mitchell Cemetery in Greenway, Ark. with full military honors.
