James Dale "Cadillac" Colter, 69, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away May 1, 2014 at his home.
Mr. Colter was born on August 24, 1944 in Poplar Bluff. He was the son of the late Lenard and Lorraine Colter and Daphine McGhee.
He loved being a husband, father and grandpa. He was of the Baptist faith and love helping people, he served as a volunteer firefighter at Lake Road Sub Station, when he wasn't driving over the road for many years. He served in the United States Army and National Guard and was a member of the NRA. He enjoyed fishing and gigging.
On October 20, 1968 he married Gail Levan in Rock Island, Ill. She survives.
Other survivors include his children, Michelle Murphy (Tubby), Karmen Lucas (Mike), James Dale Colter Jr. and Thomas Colter; six sisters; Kathy Gibbs (Terry), Carol Keeney, Linda Faust (Ed), Elaine Lannom (Lanny), Karen Rodery and JoAnn Pierce (Dennis); four brothers, Alan Colter, David Colter, Gary Colter (Debbie) and Jeff McGhee (Patty); three sister-in-laws, Sandy Spain (Paul), Charlotte Donlson (Les) and Anita Hupp (Bob), one brother-in-law; Roger Levan (Dorinda); nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Frank and Dorothy Levan; one sister, Imogene Clark; a brother-in-law, Troy Levan, and three nephews.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff. Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, May 4, 2014 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Ralph Mayes officiating. Internment will follow at the Duley Cemetery in Poplar Bluff with full military honors.
