Monday evening December 1, 2025, Janell Bullock Holston died in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, where she had lived for the last 16 years with her daughter, Sandra (nee Holston) and her husband Wendell Elliott. Janell was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends.
Janell was born June 23,1930 in Covington County, Mississippi. Her parents were Melvin and Fairl (nee Aultman) Bullock, both lifelong residents of Seminary. Janell was a graduate of the Seminary school system and made many lifelong friends there.
Janell and her loving husband Hoyt “Bill” Holston, Sr. were blessed to celebrate almost 50 years of marriage before his death in February 1999. They began their life together in Laurel, Mississippi where they raised two children: a son Hoyt Jr. and a daughter Sandra. Later the family relocated to Hattiesburg, Mississippi where Janell retired as an employee of the University of Southern Mississippi.
After moving to Poplar Bluff, Missouri Janell became an active member of First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Hoyt Holston Sr.; their son Hoyt Holston Jr. also of Poplar Bluff; her parents Melvin and Fairl Bullock of Seminary; brothers Charles Bullock of Seminary and Jimmy Bullock of Laurel; sister-in-law Bobbie Bullock and nephew Craig Bullock, both of Seminary.
Janell is survived by her daughter Sandra and husband Wendell Elliott both of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and her two grandsons William (Angie) Elliott and Matthew (Carolyn) Elliott and her 2 great grandchildren Juniper Elliott and Arthur Elliott, all of St. Louis, Missouri.
The funeral service will be at Billy M. King - Colonial Chapel in Collins, Mississippi on Tuesday, December 9th at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Chad Cummings of Evergreen Baptist Church officiating. Also from Evergreen Church, Bob Thames, Minister of Music will provide special music. The burial will follow at the Seminary Cemetery in Seminary. Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff is in charge of local arrangements.
Pall bearers are Keith Bullock, Russell Bullock, Slade Bullock, Craig Bullock, Joe Bullock, and Wendell Elliott.
