Jerry "Leroy" Colter

Jerry "Leroy" Colter, 75, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Thursday, June 7, 2017, at his residence. He was born May 28, 1942 in Corning, Ark. He married Marcell Jean (Passley) Colter, January 13, 1989 in Poplar Bluff. She survives. Mr. Colter served in the U.S. Army for 3 years before serving in the U.S. Air Force as an Air Force Policeman in Korea. He was a typesetter, retiring from Bluff City Printers. He enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, spending time with his family and friends, telling stories and writing poetry. He was of the Baptist faith. Leroy always had a kind heart and a listening ear. He loved his family and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Other survivors include his children, Connie Jackson, Lora Foust (Gary), and Mary Jeanette Maxwell; his mother, Grace (Remmenga) Colter; sisters, Wilma Clark, Judy Jett (Jerry), Marilyn Seely (Gene), Shirley Parkin Moore (Ron), and Glenda Evans; one brother, James R. "Jim" Colter; as well as his grandchildren, Justin Foust (Julia), Logan Foust, Kate Foust, and Jessica Foust; and two great-grandchildren, Lucas Hopkins and Vivian Foust and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, James "Bud" Colter; his brothers, Jackie Colter and Kenneth Dale Colter; brothers-in-law, Don Clark, Jim Evans, Jerry Parkin, Kenny Brewer and Gary Nicholson; and special friend, Levon Bryson. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, June 12, 2017 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff followed by the funeral service at noon. The Rev. Bill Orr will officiate with special words by Gary Foust. He will be laid to rest in the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery with military rites.
