Jesse Gilliland

Jesse Robert Gilliland, 88, passed away March 15, 2012, at the Missouri Veteran’s Home in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Monday, followed by the funeral service at 10 a.m. at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff, with Ron Fowler officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in Mo. State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Mo. The son of the late William J. and Allie Gilliland, he was born February 18, 1924, in Bertrand, Mo. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and had worked as a self-employed carpenter. He is survived by three sons, Jim Gilliland of Doniphan, Mo., Dave Gilliland of Placerville, Calif., and Gene Gilliland of Sacramento, Calif.; one daughter, Cheryl Gillialand of Citrus Heights, Calif.; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; five brothers, Louis Philip Gilliland of Poplar Bluff, William Gilliland of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Lloyd Gilliland of Drain, Ore., Henry Gilliland of Mountain Home, Idaho, and John Gilliland of Lazear, Colo.; four sisters, Margaret Richmond of Poplar Bluff; Bea Fritts of Sutherlin, Ore., Allie Dannecker of Poplar Bluff and Hazel Watson of Poplar Bluff. He was also preceded in death by one son, Bobby Joe Gilliland.
