John N. Clayton Jr., 90 of Naylor, Mo., died Sunday, Oct 27, 2013, at Westwood Hills Health Care.
Mr Clayton was born March 15, 1923, in Gatewood, Mo. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Pensacola. He was a blacksmith who enjoyed Cardinal baseball and going to the coffee shop. He also coached girl's softball teams.
Survivors include his children, Norma Mattingly and husband, Charles, of Des Arc, Mo., Jenny Hudson and husband, Joe, of Doniphan, Mo., Martha Clayton of Harviell, Mo., John Clayton and wife, Sherry, of Naylor, and James Clayton and wife, Leeann, of Nixa, Mo.; two brothers, David Clayton of Doniphan and Joe Clayton of Sterling, Kan.; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Newton Clayton Sr. and Cleo Brown Clayton, and one brother, Martin Clayton.
Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Thursday at Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel in Neelyville. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the chapel with Donnie Fowler officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the Missouri State Veteran Cemetery in Bloomfield, Mo. Memorials in lieu of flowers can be made to Bloomfield Veterans Cemetery.
