Larry Gene Becker

Larry Gene Becker, age 84, of Wappapello, Missouri, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2025, in Van Buren, Missouri.

Larry was born to Robert Lewis Becker and Anna Belle Becker (Griffith). With a heart for service, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served from 1959 to 1967 as an aircraft mechanic. Following his honorable service, he built a career as a skilled boilermaker, admired for his dedication and work ethic.

Larry made his life in southeast Missouri. He lived in Dexter from 1972–1988, raising his children there, before moving to Poplar Bluff, where he resided until 2020. In his later years, he made Wappapello his home, enjoying the beauty and peace of the outdoors.

A man of many passions, Larry loved cutting firewood, fishing, hunting, gardening, canning, and baking. He found joy in working outdoors and living simply. More than anything, he was known for his selflessness—always putting others before himself and finding happiness in helping those around him.

Larry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Helen Becker; his son, Robert Becker; his parents; and many loved ones who went before him.

He is survived by his children: Larry White, Melissa Becker, Scott Becker, and David White; his brother, Bill Becker; his grandchildren: Jesse Becker (Reyes), Travis Becker, Jaime Becker, Christian Becker (Martinez), Jordynn Becker, Grace Becker, Logan Becker, Andrew Becker, Chelsea Heatwolfe, and Chip Marmaduke; along with eight great-grandchildren who were the light of his life.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 23, at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, 701 Vine Street, Poplar Bluff. The family will receive guests from 5:00–6:00 p.m., followed by public visitation from 6:00–8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 24, at 10:00 a.m. with graveside services to follow. A reception will take place immediately afterward at the Holiday Inn Hotel catered by Castello’s Restaurant.

Larry’s legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to family and community will continue to live on through the many lives he touched.
