Lelia Mae Hopson was born April 4, 1935, to Dorothy Smith and Oscar Bennett in Green Brier AR.
Lelia was baptized at Shady Grove MB Church in Hermandale, MO; the family moved to Poplar Bluff, MO in 1950.
Although the marriage did not last, Roger Hopson and Lelia Hopson had four beautiful children and shared his son.
She was a member of New Light MB Church and Loving Jesus Ministries. She was on the Mothers Board and had a listening ear for all. Lelia’s food was sought out at Church dinners. She received numerous phone calls asking her to make cakes and pies. Not only was she a fantastic cook, her sewing skills were on point. She chaired an Annual St. Jude’s fundraiser. As Mistress of Ceremony, she caught your attention with her variety of hats, but she gave more, a sermonette. When she stood to speak, her words were sound and backed up with chapter and verse. Any conversation lasting more than two to three minutes; God's name would come up and she would expound on her many blessings; “I don’t deserve them, but I sure thank Him for them”.
She was preceded in death by her Sister Lesiebe Jefferson, her parents, brother Joe Lewis Willie Jefferson, and son Eric Linn Hopson.
She leaves to embrace wonderful memories; her children: Leroy Touche` Nunn Sr., Jo Ann Brandon (Donald), Edward Alexander (Calvena), Phillip W. Hopson (Vanessa), Kathleen Hopson, Mary Hopson. 18 Grandchildren and a host of Great Grands, Nieces, and Nephews.
