Lucky Kirby, 78, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., formerly of Palermo, Calif., passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at his home.
The son of John Kirby and Effie (Davis) Kirby, Lucky was born October 4, 1938 in Yuba City, Calif. He was of the Methodist belief. He served in the U.S. Marines, Army Reserves and California National Guard. He enjoyed moto cross racing, street rods, pool, gathering with family and friends, telling jokes and traveling here and abroad. Mr. Kirby worked as a Sutter County Sheriff Deputy for 9 years and 25 years for American Honda Motor Co. and 5 years at Home Depot. Lucky loved life and people, and people loved him.
On December 12, 2012, he married Deborah Kirby, in Poplar Bluff. She survives.
Other survivors include his children, Brenda DeLong, Rick Kirby and step-son, David Brinkley II and brother, Sparky Kirby.
He is preceded in death by his parents, as well as one son, Michael Kirby; sisters, Billie Kirby, Georgia Yaney and Jackie Boyd.
Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, April 3, 2017 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2017, in the chapel, with Les Davenport officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery with full military honors.
