Luther Medley, 81, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff. Mr. Medley was born June 19, 1932, in Wappapello, Mo. He served in the US Army from 1953 to 1955. He was a lineman for a utility company. He enjoyed playing bluegrass music, making and repairing wooden instruments, fishing, and playing with his grandchildren. He was of the Southern Baptist faith. He married Bonnie (Prewett) Medley May 24, 1952, in Piggott, Ark. She survives. Also surviving are four children, Gary Medley (Hilda) of Goddard, Kansas, Sharron Watson of Pocahontas, Ark., Karen Murphy (Doug) of Williamsville, Mo., and David Medley (Ginger Potts) of Poplar Bluff; five grandchildren; Amanda Hicks, Jeffrey Watson, Elizabeth Perigo (Ian), Matthew Murphy and Cody Potts; and three great-grandchildren, Ally Barnett, Vayne Perigo and Chase Hicks. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Eva Medley; three sisters, Virgie Johnson, Cordella Fouts and Lena Harty; four brothers, Leslie Medley, Bill Medley, Leamon Medley and Lonzo Medley; a son-in-law, Charles A. Watson and a granddaughter, Michelle Medley. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday October 11, 2013 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home (844 Cedar Street) in Poplar Bluff. The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday October 12, 2013 in the funeral home chapel, with Brother Jimmy Gilbert officiating. Burial will be in the Black River Cemetery with Military honors.
