Marvelene Riepe

Marvelene Riepe, 79, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Monday, October 19, 2015 at St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Mrs. Riepe was born December 18, 1935, in Hollywood, Mo., to the late Albert Smith and Cora (Strawn) Smith. Marvelene was a member of Abundant Life Christian Center. She enjoyed going to church and had a Christian card ministry. She had worked as a nurse's aide and was a foster grandmother for Eugene Field School. She loved her family, and especially her grandchildren. She was also the organizer for the annual Smith family reunion. Survivors include a son, Tony D. Smith and wife,Tammy and a daughter, Denise Hamilton and husband, Jeff; two grandchildren, J.K. Gehlbach (Adris), and Jessica Gehlbach; one great-grandchild, Zayvean Gehlbach, as well as many special nieces and nephews. Mrs. Riepe was also preceded in death by a sister, Estelle England and brothers, Drew Smith, J.B. "Dub" Smith, Bill Smith, and Jim Smith. Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, October 21, 2015, at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 22, 2015 in funeral home chapel with Pastor David Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Mole Hill Cemetery near Broseley, Mo.
