Mary Lee (Gower) Hornbeck, age 84, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away October 10, 2013, at Westwood Hills Healthcare in Poplar Bluff.
Mrs. Hornbeck was born April 26, 1929, in Oran, Mo., to the late David Jefferson Vincent and Sarah Louvera Elizabeth (Sloat) Gower. She was devoted to her husband, children and grandchildren. An avid gardener, she loved canning and sharing with her family and friends. She was an excellent seamstress making wedding dresses and prom gowns for her children and grandchildren.
On October 5, 1944, she married Jesse Hornbeck, in Corning, Ark. He preceded her to heaven this year and we know he was waiting for her with open arms at the eastern gate.
Survivors include two daughters, Brenda (Allan) Bellamy, Springfield, Mo., Sharon (Marion) Tibbs, Poplar Bluff; four grandchildren, Kimberly Bellamy, Springfield, Scott (Michelle) Bellamy, Olathe, Ks.; Michelle (Doug) Bates, Poplar Bluff, Brian (Lori) Tibbs, Poplar Bluff; great-grandchildren, Kaylee (David) Hessling, Dexter, Kelsey Bates, Lucas, Tanner, and Tyson Tibbs, of Poplar Bluff, and Ashley (Jason) Davis, Long Beach, Ms.; five great-great-grandchildren; a brother James Albert Gower , a sister Dorothy Moore, Poplar Bluff.
Preceding her in death were siblings, Rosetta Stucker, David Gower and Jimmy Henson.
Visitation will begin at 12 p.m. Sunday, October 13, 2013 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, 844 Cedar Street, Poplar Bluff, Mo., followed by funeral services at 1 p.m., with Ron Fowler officiating. She will be laid to rest by her beloved husband in the Poplar Bluff City Cemetery at 9:30 a.m. Monday, October 14, 2013.
