Matt Mathis

Mathew Clay "Matt" Mathis, 41, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., died Tuesday, August 7, 2012, in Butler County, Mo. Mr. Mathis was born May 26, 1971, in Poplar Bluff, to parents Wesley Lloyd Mathis and Susan (Gutterman) Mathis. He was a lifetime resident of Butler County. He was a welder for Rice Trailer Manufacturing. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, collecting arrow heads and being with his children. On March 23, 1991, he was married to Melissa (Tanksley) Mathis in Poplar Bluff. She survives. Also surviving are his children, Myles Mathis and friend, Makala of Poplar Bluff, Madison Mathis and friend, Hunter of Poplar Bluff, McKenzie Mathi and Mason Mathis, both of the home; his mother, Susan (Gutterman) Mathis of Poplar Bluff; his grandmother, Catherine Gutterman of Stringtown; a sister, Cassie Hancock and husband, James of Poplar Bluff; a brother, Mark Mathis of Strington; and three grandchildren, Aubrey Mathis, Marianna and Mariah Mathis. He was preceded in death by his father, Wesley Lloyd Mathis; his grandparents, Max and Mildred Mathis; and his grandfather, John Gutterman. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Tuesday August 14, 2012, followed by the funeral at 7 p.m. at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday August 15, 2012 in Black Creek Cemetery. The family wishes to thank all those who helped them in the past few days.
