Nellie Bernice Elloitt Dawes, 91, of Naylor, Missouri, passed away September 15, 2015 in the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff. Missouri. She was born August 28, 1924, in Ripley County Missouri, to Herbert and Maude (Cunningham) Elliott. She was also known as "Sis" by her siblings, nieces and nephews. She became a member of the Naylor Christian Church in 1950. She was married to Alvin "Bus" Dawes January 26, 1946. Preceded her in death was her husband in 2001; sons Robert Lester Dawes in 1947, and Roy Lee Dawes in 2006. daughter -in-law Vicki Emmons Dawes in 199; her parents and two sisters; Blanche Beal and Alice Beasley. seven brothers; Emerald, Ivan, James, Willis, Franklin, Leslie and Clarence Elliott and several nieces and nephews. Survivors include two granddaughters; Melissa and husband, David Carite and Kalie Dawes; two great-granddaughters Sophie Carite and Hattie Nichols, and great-grandson, Gavin Carite; sister-in-law, Jean Mouthrie; and numerous nieces and nephews and dear friends Helen and Herschel Hobbs. Bernice started working away from home in 1955 as a restaurant cook at Shelton's State Line Restaurant , at Johansen's Shoe Factory at Corning, Arkansas for 15 years, at Sniders' IGA in Poplar Bluff, Missouri as a cook, at the Naylor Nutrition Center and the MO-ARK Christian Service Camp and a Vitronic Company at Doniphan, Missouri. for 15 years until retirement in 1992. After her retirement from Vitronic, she devoted more time to her appliquéd quilts. Bernice was very concerned and faithfully donated to the upkeep of Antioch Cemetery since most of her loved ones are buried there. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Antioch Cemetery Fund. visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at Fowler-Sullivan Memorial Chapel of Neelyville, Missouri with the funeral starting at 12:00 p.m.. Burial will be in the Antioch Cemetery
