Nova Montgomery

Nova Joy (Adams) Montgomery, 105, of Poplar Bluff, Mo. passed away Friday, December 5, 2014 at the Westwood Nursing Home in Poplar Bluff. Mrs. Montgomery was born December 5, 1909, in rural Ripley County, Mo. She married Paul Montgomery July 31, 1934. Upon their arrival in Butler County, they formed their life-long business, Paul Montgomery Construction. While Paul was building bridges, Nova took care of the office duties of secretary, treasurer and manager for 40 years. Paul and Nova were very active in the Sacred Heart Church and Knights of Columbus, as well as veterans organizations and community efforts. Nova continued volunteering her services after the death of Paul in 1997. She was also an avid Senior Olympic participant through her 92nd birthday. She participated yearly in the Relay for Life walkathon. She was matriarch of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Poplar Bluff. Preceding Nova in death were her parents, John Thomas Adams and Hestoria Patterson Adams; several siblings and her husband, Paul. She is survived by her son, Larry Paul Montgomery and wife, Marilyn; two grandchildren, two step- grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m., Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, 844 Cedar Street, Poplar Bluff. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12 (noon) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Father David Coon officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
