Paul Leroy Weitzel passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at the age of 80. A graveside service with full Military Rites will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, June 23, 2011 at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Mo., with Pastor Kevin McAnulty officiating.
Mr. Weitzel was born Septermber 9, 1930, at Desloge, Mo, to parents Henry Weitzel and Golda "Shannon" Weitzel. Both preceded him in death. He was of the Christian faith.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Koren Conflict and Vietnam War. He retired in 1970 after 23 years of service. He moved to Butler County and served as a Poplar Bluff Police Officer from 1971 to 1993, before retiring a second time.
He enjoyed yard work, watching the St. Louis Cardinals and being with his children and grandchildren.
He was married to Jean Rosener and later to Edna May Keel. He was most recently married to Hattie Lee Riddle. She preceded him in death.
Surviving are four children, Ted Weitzel of Portland, Oregan, Paula Navarre of Vancouver, Washington. Kathy Lancing of Pea Ridge, Ark. and Bruce Weitzel of Poplar Bluff; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Lamers.
