Rev. Richard Maxwell Whitmer, 79, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Thursday, July 24, 2014 in the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. He was born June 14, 1935, at Poplar Bluff to the late Charles and Agnes (Sullivan) Whitmer.
On May 23, 1956 he married Elvira Davis in Poplar Bluff, she survives.
Also surviving are six daughters: Doris Stalling, Debra Powell, Pamella Freeman, Shirley Whitmer and Lillian Whitmer, all of Poplar Bluff, and Marjorie Patterson of Lakeland, Fla.; one sister, Dorothy Walker of St. Louis, Mo., four brothers: Rev. Charles Whitmer, of Fairdealing, Mo., Gary Whitmer, Stanley Whitmer and Terry Whitmer, all of Poplar Bluff; 18 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents as well as two daughters, Connie and Cindy Whitmer, one sister Deanna McIntosh, as well as two brothers Jack and Bob Whitmer.
Mr. Whitmer was a member of the Twin Oaks Baptist Church where he was a pastor. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time with his family.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Cypress Cemetery at Doniphan, Mo. Rev. Charles Whitmer will be officiating.
