Roger D. Robinson, 70, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away from this life suddenly and unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 14, 2013. He was born on October 14, 1942 to G.L. and Hazel Robinson of Oil Trough, Ar. Roger was a rugged athlete, playing football for the Poplar Bluff Mules before attending School of the Ozarks.
On January 11, 1963, he married Melvaline Leach of Success, Ar. They had three children, Diane (Paul) Porter of St. Charles, Mo., Gary (Jana) Robinson and Carol Cook of Poplar Bluff, Mo. He had five grandchildren, Zach Robinson, Jordan Baker, Savana Robinson, Jacob Porter and Molly Cook; as well as two great-grandchildren, Aubrey Grubbs and Cash Baker. Mr. Robinson is also survived by two brothers, Gerry (Sandy) Robinson of Poplar Bluff and Billy Joe Robinson and one sister, Mary Robinson, both of Sands Springs, Ok.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Donna Potts of Skiatook, Ok.
Roger was a master electrician, certified in earthquake preparedness, charter member of the Wappapello Bass Masters and past chair of the Planning and Zoning Committee for the city of Poplar Bluff. He was employed for 18 years by the City Light and Water department, working as a journeyman lineman. He then worked for Doctors Hospital and after the merger, Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center a combined 28 years. In these positions, he supervised many departments at various times including, laundry, security, building and grounds maintenance and special construction projects. He retired in 2003.
Roger was always active and his greatest passion beyond family was bass fishing. He was well known as a sportsman and won numerous tournaments. He also enjoyed coaching youth, especially baseball and soccer. He loved God and worshipped at the Green Forest Church of Christ.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, August 16, 2013 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 17, 2013 in the funeral home chapel with Greg Carman officiating.
