Suzie LaVonne Vaughn, 86, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2025, at the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff. Born on January 28, 1939, to Alonzo and Ethel Hornbeck, Sue proudly served her country in the United States Air Force before marrying the love of her life, Cairl Rudolph “Rudy” Vaughn, on March 5, 1960. Together, they shared 65 wonderful years. Sue’s greatest joy came from spending time with her family and serving others. A devoted woman of faith, she found deep purpose in giving, encouraging others, and being active in her church community. Her kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit of service touched the lives of many. She is survived by her beloved husband, Rudy; two daughters, Lisa Hays (Jeff) and Angela Weeks (Jim); six cherished grandchildren, Jonathan Weeks, Austin Weeks, Quinn Weeks, John Hays, Andrew Weeks, and Alexis Hays; her brother, Richard Hornbeck; and many beloved nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart. Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Alonzo and Ethel; seven sisters; five brothers; and her mother- and father-in-law. A celebration of Sue’s life will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Temple Baptist Church, 1813 Barron Rd., Poplar Bluff, MO, 63901. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., with the funeral service at 2:00 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life and Ice Cream Social—a fitting tribute to Sue’s warm, sweet spirit. In honor of Sue’s vibrant spirit, we invite you to wear bright, cheerful colors. Let’s celebrate her life with the joy and color she brought to us.
