Virgie A. Diamond

Virgie A. Diamond (nee Howard), 102, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at Mark Twain Caring Center. Mrs. Diamond was born April 16, 1912 in Wayne County, Mo. She was the beloved wife of the late Orville E. Diamond for 72 years. She was a member of First Church of God and later attended West Side Church of God. She was a charter member of the Women's Missionary Society, a Sunday school teacher, and sang bass in the family quartet and church choir. Bible study was important as well as being with family and friends. An excellent seamstress and she made clothes, toys, quilts and crocheted. Mrs. Diamond enjoyed reading, word puzzles and bowling, winning many medals in the Mid-South Senior Olympics. She is survived by two daughters, Paralee Diamond and Yvonne Smith, both of Poplar Bluff; a special first grandchild, Veta Day of Poplar Bluff; one sister, Lora Huddleston of California; and two brothers, Bill Howard of Poplar Bluff and Paul Howard of Texas. She was also granny to many loving grandchildren, great and great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Mrs. Diamond was preceded in death by two daughters, Joan Priest and Karyn Winters; one son, Jimmy Diamond; three sisters, Bettie McGath, Laura Porterfield and Mae Grissom; and one brother, Hersel Howard. Graveside rites will begin at 1 p.m. Friday, May 30, 2014 at Memorial Gardens. Memorial may be made to the West Side Church of God or the charity of one's choice.
