Walter E. Conner Sr., 89, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Friday August 10, 2012 in Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Conner was born January 8, 1923 in St. Louis, Mo. to the late George Washington Conner and Evelyn (Carney) Carner. He was a member of Hamtown Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He had retired as a hardwood floor sander and finisher. He enjoyed fishing.
On September 21, 1955, he was married to Anna Dixon in St. Louis, Mo. She survives.
Also surviving are his children, Linda Halbert of Wappapello, Mary Diane Conner, Walter Conner Jr., Robert Leo Conner, Thomas Wayne Conner and Donald Lee Conner all of Wappapello; an adopted son, Chris Blackmon of Poplar Bluff; 26 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Conner is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Letha Conner and Mary Conner; four brothers, George Conner Jr., William Conner, Clarence Clifford Conner, and Charles Conner.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Monday August 13, 2012 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home, 844 Cedar Street, Poplar Bluff, Mo. Funeral services will start at 12 p.m. Tuesday August 14, 2012 in the chapel with Pastor Terry Scott officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at 2 p.m. in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Mo.
