Willie Symantha McVey, 97, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Friday, January 24, 2014 at her home.
Mrs. McVey was born December 23, 1916, in Galena, Mo., to the late Harvey and Alta Lou Gracey (Mitchell) Messenger. She had worked as a clerk at the Arkansas Department of Revenue and retired in 1982. She enjoyed sewing, Arkansas Razorback sports and life. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Poplar Bluff.
On August 30, 1941, she was married to William Arthur McVey at Fayetteville, Ark. He preceded her in death on February 16, 1998.
Survivors include two sons, William "Bill" Arthur McVey Jr. and wife, Ann and Gary Neal McVey and wife, Kay; two sisters, Gynith Louise (Messenger) Sossaman and Marjorie Ellen (Messenger) Pettit; her grandchildren and their families, Gary Neal McVey Jr. and wife, Lindsay Renee, Rebecca Ellen McVey, Brian McVey and Stephanie (McVey) Snyder and husband, Neal.
She is also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Edith (Messenger) McDaniel and brother, Kemett Cebert Messenger.
Visitation for Mrs. McVey will begin at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 28, 2014, followed by the funeral service at 6 p.m. at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff, Mo., with the Rev. David Huck officiating. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at the Layton Cemetery in Yellville, Ark. with Rev. Donnie Hudson officiating.
The family ask memorials can be made to the First United Methodist Church in Poplar Bluff.
