Wilma Genevia Chatman Hillis 82, of Poplar Bluff, passed away Thursday July 13, 2017 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. Her parents were Rev. Roscoe and Maud Edith Chatman and she was one of 13 children. She married Cecil Eugene Hillis on Jan 13, 1952.
She was a graduate of Poplar Bluff High School, received Masters Degree in education from Southeast Missouri State University and a Doctorate Degree from Covington Theological Seminary in Rossville, GA. Mrs. Hillis taught school in Butler and East Carter Counties and ended her career in education with the Missouri Dept. Of Corrections.
She is survived by her children; Lawrence Eugene Hillis and wife, Janet, of Poplar Bluff, Gracie Ann Holford and husband, Richard of Alamogordo, N.M., Teddy Mack Hillis and wife Cheryl of Noble, Okla., ans Nancy June Dunivan and husband, Chris, of Poplar Bluff; three sisters Alma Hughes, Pansy Parks, and Anna Hedrick; four brothers; Chester Chatman, Truman, Clyde, and Lawrence Chatman; 16 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Cecil Hillis; her parents, Rev. Roscoe and Maud Edith Chatman; three brothers; Harmon Chatman, William Chatman, and Herschel Chatman; and two sisters; Thelma Smody and Velma Hughes.
Visitation for Mrs. Hillis will be at 6 p.m., Monday, July 17, 2017, at Fowler- Sullivan Funeral Home 844 Cedar St., Poplar Bluff. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. ., Tuesday, July 18, 2017, in the chapel with Bro. Rick Holford officiating. Burial will be in Dunning Cemetery.
