Daniel "Len" Hart Obituary

Daniel “Len” Hart, 79, passed away on October 10, 2020 surrounded by family at his home in Maryville, Illinois.

Len was born on July 28, 1941 in Neelyville, Missouri to Charley and Myrtle (Bridgewater) Hart. He married his beloved wife Lois “Maxine” (Greer) in 1964. Len and Maxine moved to St. Louis in 1965, where they raised their children Kevin and Deanna.

During a long and successful career as a Painter, Len was well known and respected throughout the construction trades for his work ethic and skill. He took pride in serving as Foreman on numerous major projects in the St. Louis area over the years, including the Gateway National Raceway.

He was a proud 55-year member of Painter’s Local 137, holding various positions including Financial Secretary, Delegate, Trustee, and eventually Business Agent, for which he was elected to serve multiple terms until his retirement. He received the “Man of the Year” award in 2003 in recognition of his service.

Len was a lifelong baseball fan, having played and umpired in his youth and as a young adult. He was also an avid follower of thoroughbred horse racing. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with his beloved family, socializing with his dear friends, watching Cardinals baseball, and being with the family dogs he adored.

He is survived by his wife Maxine, son Kevin (Debra), daughter Deanna (Michael), grandson Jonathan (Amelia), great-grandchildren Jack and Samantha, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Len was preceded in death by his father Charley, mother Myrtle, brother Charles, and his sister Bonnie.

There will be a visitation 12 pm to 1:30 pm Thursday, October 15, 2020 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff.  Then a procession to Kinsey Cemetery for a 2 pm GRAVESIDE service with Pastor Greg Gilberto officiating.
