Obituary

Gladys Hayes departed this life on June11, 2023 at the age of 71. Gladys was born on September 3rd, 1951, in Caruthersville Mo.

 Gladys graduated from Neelyville High School in 1970 and shortly afterwards moved to St. Louis, MO Gladys met and married Willie Paul Hayes. Three children were born to this union. Curtis, Eric, and Carla.

Gladys had a passion for taking care elderly and disabled people. Gladys joined New Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Henry D. Young. After the passing of her eldest son Curtis on June 23,1993 Gladys moved to Poplar Bluff MO. 

 Gladys attended several churches before making Loving Jesus Ministries (formerly known as Conley Grove Baptist Church) her church home under the leadership of Pastor John McCain. Gladys served as an usher song in the choir and read the church announcements.

 Gladys loved spending time with her family and friends. When she thought about a person, she would pull her telephone book out to give them a call and see how they were doing. Gladys was a sweet lady.

In 2016 Gladys was diagnosed with kidney failure. But she was trusting God for healing. She went through many surgeries with June 6th being her last successful surgery.

Gladys left to love and cherish her memories of her daughter Carla Hayes of Poplar Bluff, Mo. her daughter N law Trena Whitehorn of Joplin Mo. Her son Paul Williams and wife (Latonya Williams) of Covington Tn. 8 grandchildren Tyran, DeoJinay, Trenikia, Peaches,Kiarra,Cody,Tybius,Antonio. 13 great grand kids. She leaves behind her Sister Mattie Griffin of Poplar Bluff MO Stella (Harvey) Hunt of Broseley MO. Florene Parson of St. Louis Mo Cathaleen Jackson & Betty Whitehorn of Lansing MI. Onietta & Juanita Whitehorn Maxwell of Detroit MI. 2 brothers Larry (Judith) Whitehorn of Marysville California Charles Whitehorn of Lansing MI.  

Aunt Estellar Williams and her favorite cousin Pearline Jones. Special friends Alice Moss, Donna Moore, Jearlene Rice, Gloria Watkins and a high school friend Raymond Tracey and a host of nieces, nephews cousins and church family.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Mattie Whitehorn her sons Curtis and Eric her sisters Ruby and Henrietta (Peaches) Whitehorn.

Visitation will begin at 12pm June 22,2023 at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff.  The homegoing service will begin at 1PM in the funeral home chapel.  Burial will follow in Poplar Bluff City Cemetery.
