Petie Sweet Love Rainwater Baker CGC TKN

Petie Sweet Love Rainwater Baker CGC TKN, 13, of Poplar Bluff, MO, passed away on May 10, 2021 at Hicks Animal Hospital. 

Petie was born on September 14, 2007 in Dexter, MO.  He was a full blooded Miniature Schnauzer, but no one wanted him because he was white.  The breeder gave him to a loving woman at 4 months of age, but sadly there was a man that abused Petie day in & day out.  At 10 months of age Petie was rescued by his new & permanent family – Clayton & Carol (Rainwater) Baker.

Petie’s new Mommy, Carol, saw something ‘different’ in Petie & decided to see what it would take for Petie to become a Certified Therapy Dog.  Petie flew through Doggy School earning his Canine Good Citizen Title through the AKC & the Therapy Dog Program.  Petie started out working at the VAMC in Poplar Bluff, MO.  Petie loved his Veterans & they loved him.  Petie went on to work at Oakdale Care Centers & served the elderly there.  He also attended many visitations, funerals, hospice care, 90th birthday parties, hospital visits, & much more over the next 10 years!

Petie & his baby sister Bella, a Certified Service Dog, earned their Trick Dog Title through the AKC on December 4, 2020.  Petie earned this title at the age of 13 & after battling cancer!  Bella was 1.  This earned both of them the letters TKN behind their names.

Petie fought cancer again in January 2021 & beat it thanks to the wonderful doctors at MU Veterinary Health Center in Columbia, MO.  Petie officially retired on March 31, 2021.  He made the DAR & KFVS 12.  Sadly, he developed a 3rd type of cancer shortly after he retired. 

Petie has accomplished more in his short 13 years of life than many people do in 70-80 years!  Petie’s family & friends, including SEMO Dog Trainers, couldn’t be more proud of him.  He will be fur-ever missed.

Petie enjoyed working as a Therapy Dog, playing with his siblings & human family, & being with his Mommy.

Petie is survived by Sister, Cupcake; Sister, Pig; Sister, Bella Flopsy Rainwater Baker CGC TKN;

Uncle, Joker; Aunt, Little One; Grandma, Janet Rainwater; Grandpa, Robert Rainwater;

Mommy, Carol (Rainwater) Baker; Daddy, Clayton Baker

Petie was preceded in death by Aunt, Grandma Bertie Cook & his brothers & sisters; JJ, Charlie, Boss Man, Honey Bunny, Baldie Girl, Susie Q, PJ, Chunky Monkey, Paige, Cannon, & Abby.

Memorial Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 from 5:30 – 6:00 PM at Fowler-Sullivan Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff, MO.

Memorial Service will begin at 6:00 PM in the chapel with brother Mark Panogos officiating.

The family is asking everyone to wear blue in honor of Petie for Pet Cancer Awareness.
